The name Willow Toxicology Consulting grew out of three main ideas.

• The founder of the company is Dr. Mark Osier.  An Osier is (among other things) a variety of willow tree, Salix viminalis.
• In addition to being used for basket making and willow sculptures, the Osier willow is used in environmental remediation. They are able to absorb heavy metals from soil, and so are planted in contaminated soils to clean up the site.
• One of the earliest human medicines came from the bark of the willow tree.
